I'm pretty sure that the Rivenese dialogue used in Riven was a Papua New Guinean language used by Cyan. I remember reading this somewhere, possibly RAWA's Lyst interviews.
Question:
When I started designing Tay, I pretty much improvised a language that sounded Rivenese as I didn't know which dialect of Papua New Guinea Cyan used. Also, I felt it would be better to create an entirely new language than utilize an already existing, albeit obscure one.
Should we invent a language using the Papua New Guinea dialect as source, use it entirely (assuming we can find it), or create something entirely new that sounds Rivenese? I would like to avoid renaming a lot of the proper names in my lore section and the map out of convenience (Also I chose those words for how they sounded, leaving meaning and etymology to someone more linguistically talented than myself).
Thoughts?

Looks like it was never revealed which particular Papuan language was used, but there’s a tentative transcript here. Oddly, Nelah says “Katerina”, not “Katran”.

I may be able to make some more accurate transcriptions of Nelah's and Cho's speeches, seeing as I know rather a number of actual linguists (and am pretty competent there myself), which would definitely be useful for using them as a base. Of course, without translations, it's highly unlikely that we'd translate the speeches exactly as Cyan did.
