Well, here's our current in-engine map of Ashtasa - the gem of the south:
Any thoughts on city planning and how the city functions as a whole, where to put puzzles, etc?
The Clan Council is a large palatial structure on the Red Hill at the heart of Roolah Island and holds the large council hall where all Clan representatives (except Atam) convene on a daily basis.
The Armana District is important since its the home of our main character Adann. Its an artisans, scholar and Writer's District, sort of the academic elite of the elite. I'm thinking very beautiful single unit tower homes. The Armana Temple is private and for residents of Armana only.
Tasko District however is for the clan and government elite. Very large and wide homes.
Ribu district is all run down apartment towers made of mud-brick and chinked stoned whereas the poorest of the poor live in Choira Shanty Town near the Black Market where illegal off-age goods and illicit books are sold.
The Temple of the Dead is essentially the commoner's public tomb for their deceased as the elite and middle class keep their deceased's ashes in their homes (which they pass on to each successive generation).
There are three ports, the first is on Roolah Island for goods and travelers, the second in the bay looking onto the Armana district from the North which is for common goods of all sorts and the third is on Roolah Island, looking onto Armana from the south and is for middle-class residents of the Carel and Banathu districts.
Far City is where many sailors row their boats on the sandy shore and frequent the many merchants and slummy drinking dens of the district. Sort of like a sailor and merchant haven with a lot of fish.
Carel District is the average, well-to-do middle class district. Homes are single floors of towers. Made of stone and brick. The area is home to many merchants and clan servants.
Micari District, like Carel is middle class, however Micari is an artisan district of the lesser variety than Armana. Many forms of crafts and furniture are made here. Rebuilt by Micari following the Second Clan War, hence its name.
Narma District is a lower-class district for all sorts of commoners - merchants, workers, cooks and butchers, along with many women who work in the nearby Temple of the Dead.
Banathu is another middle-class district, specifically medium ranking Guilds-people like Maintainers and Builders.
Luannu is a lower-middle-class district of workers, construction and dock workers along with traders.
The Shrine to Riven is a conular structure resting on a platform over-looking the docks that is a public place of veneration for the fallen Age of Riven - a place of sacred remembrance.
The Merchant's Plaza is a lower class market district for the poor. Food, tools, weapons, etc are all sold here.
The Soldier District is a lower-class district for the militia, both veteran and active - keeping in proximity to the city walls and guard towers in case of an attack.
The Great Library of Tay is accessed by bridge from Niereh Plaza - a middle-class market district selling goods such as jewelry, books (not Age books), tools, higher quality food, etc. The Great Library is large and austere, holding paid-access cages over linking books.
The Temple of Allatwan forum is a closely cloistered plaza by large government and Temple buildings, accessed by thin passageways between said buildings. At the center is a small solemn rectangular temple where all people can go worship Atauui or any of its facets.
The Shrine to Katran is a small shrine dedicated to the Goddess and Queen Katran, Kishata (Grower) of the Moiety. Inside rests a statue of Katran and many candles and firemarbles surrounding it.
The Guilds District is both home to many elite Guild Master's homes along with many training centers for the guilds, including the heavily ornamented Writer's Guild Academy where the best of Moiety talent are trained in the Art of Age writing.
Wahrk Plaza is a district holding government towers and elite-class tower-homes to the leaders of Clan Wahrk.
West of Wahrk Plaza is Clan Rem Isle, a middle-class district for members of Clan Rem living in Ashtasa - kept closely in view from the Clan Wahrk headquarters across the bridge.
The Royal Palace is a jagged cavity filled tooth jutting out of Lake Eleem and is famous for its undecorated exterior, save for the myriad of warmly lit windows that cover its jagged bare surface. Inside are myriads of elegantly decorated halls, corridors and rooms, fitted with the best D'ni and Moiety craftsman ship the Royal Court could find.
The Hunting Grounds is an upper class park and fishing area along the Wahrk Lagoon where wild animals are kept for hunting for the sport of the elite. Wahrks are kept in the Wahrk lagoon for hunting and veneration. (Just like Eskimos and the whale, to quote Richard Vander Wende, Wahrks are venerated but part of this veneration comes from the animal's use to its people, thus they are hunted and all parts of the animal serve a purpose in the community, followed by a blessing of thanks to the Mira (i.e. the animal's spirit).
Faruna Isle is a lower-class fishing and merchant suburb of Ashtasa with its own plaza built by Queen Lediah, hence its name.
Kirah Island is home to Kirah Village, a farming and sailor community with livestock and crops along with a slew of dens and rundown apartment buildings.
Finally at the very edge of Ashtasa is Rimotep Island, a fertile rural island in the middle of Lake Eleem holding Marano's Plantation and Beetle Farm, home to Marano, a rich Clan Rem businessman with close ties to the D'ni, along with his manor and underpaid Clan Hiva workers. South of here is Nadia's Gold Mine, a mine excavated recently by order of Queen Nadia for its rich gold deposits... its uses unknown...
