If I can make these panels look really nice I'd like to carve it into wood for block printing. Then we could have physical copies of the outhouse book.
I have a friend who's family owns/runs a book bindery. It could turn out quite nice.
First - Content
I'd like to cover the basics of the plot from the first 2 games filled in with the book of Atrus and Ti'ana.
The book will have several chapters that are complete stories and some single panels for expression of ideas.
For instance I'd like to make a single panel Family tree.
This family tree would depict Ti'ana at a desk with Aitrus standing over her shoulder. He would have a hand on her shoulder and books under his arm. This indicates he is teaching her The Art.
Ti'ana would hold a Pen in one hand and an open book in another.
From this first open book would be a half sized Ghen.
Gehn would also hold a pen and book with a quarter sized Atrus.
Atrus would hold a book with 2 colored pages sticking out. At this point any smaller figures would be very small.
Sirrus and Achenar would be depicted as stick figure devils (probably minus the horns) clawing their way out of the pages.
I'd like to add books for both Katran and Keta. I'm not sure yet how to implement these 2 books. maybe floating or falling.
Keta's will probably fall indicating her Death upon Atrus' birth.
Sketch imgur.com/G0C5wT4 Still thinking about composition.
As for multi panel stories
I'd like to tell the stories of The fall of D'ni
The stranger's Path through Myst starting with Tiana's writing of the age Similar to this imgur.com/2hPCLfS but with a collage of Myst Island in the background.
And a new retelling of Gehn's writing of Riven leading to the exodus.
I'd also feel up to telling a picture story about Tay's history Post Riven to Present.
My background in culture study mostly revolves around Japan. I'm most familiar with the Ukiyo-e printmaking style. I may try to mix that with the Stained glass style from Riven. I'm also quite fond of the european look associated with Alchemical texts. I think the nature of Tay's culture being less refined leans more towards the european version. That being said I'm not settled on a style. I do intend to distort the anatomy of the bodies into something stylized and almost unnatural either way.
Another note about the Style.
The color scheme will be very simple, accessible, earth toned, natural pigments. Charcoal Black, Clay Red, Turmeric Yellow, some form of drab green and brown.
I'd like to use the aspect ratio of Catherine's journal from riven. almost cellphone shaped, 1:2.5ish. Bound on the short end.
Very few if any words printed on the panels.
Father son relationships have been the foundation of this series and I intend to incorporate Filial Piety heavily as a theme in the books.
I leave you with a sketch of Ti'ana writing Myst.
